Our Story
Imagine a place where church isn't just a Sunday routine but a spiritually uplifting and revitalizing experience which will help you maneuver through your daily life. That place is Bethany Baptist Church where Dr. William R. Glaze is the Pastor.
Bethany Baptist Church is a vibrant, loving congregation that seeks to honor God and walk together in faith. Through a vision of Dr. Glaze, the radio ministry "Anchored in Jesus," a school for Biblical teaching and counseling - Pittsburgh Institute of Biblical Studies and Biblical Counseling, and an outreach to feed and care for the community through Bethany Community Ministries were formed and are meeting the needs of people in many ways.
Bethany Baptist Church is more than a place of worship; it's a community of believers where hearts find solace, lives are transformed, and purpose is discovered. Bethany welcomes individuals and families with children of all ages – from our Nursery ministry for the very young; our Children’s program, KUC (Kids Under Construction); our outreach to Youth in our YCC (Young Christian Conquerors) and our Pray-to-Play basketball ministries to classes and gatherings specifically for Christian growth for Men and Women.
Come as you are. Our doors swing open wide to welcome individuals of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds, regardless of where you’ve been or what you’ve experienced. So, if you are considering rethinking church, hit your refresh button at Bethany where church is a place where your spiritual journey finds its home.
Our Mission
The Mission of Bethany Baptist Church is to teach the Word of God, worship Jesus Christ and reach all people with the Gospel, with emphasis on youth and families.
Our History
- Bethany Baptist Church was organized in 1897.
- Services were first conducted in a small building in western Wilkinsburg that was called Crab Hollow.
- Bethany soon bought a small frame building for $5,000 at 7734 Tioga Street that had been a German Lutheran Church.
- Construction of a new building at 7734 Tioga Street began anew in 1924 at a cost of $40,000.
- In July 1990, Bethany Baptist Church called Dr. William Glaze to be its pastor, the fourteenth for the church and the current pastor.
- Construction was completed in 2001 for the Bethany Center, a multi-purpose building located across the street from the church building to augment Bethany’s ministries to the community. Because of structural deficiencies, the church was demolished in 2008. The Bethany Center thus became Bethany’s place of worship.
